Written by Shaun Keeling | Oct 5, 2020 11:16:44 AM

From October 5th we’re turning our Donate for Good attention in support of African Icons Invitational, a cause which “embraces the social responsibility of taking care of the fallen heroes’ and heroines’ children and their educational needs."As an Olympic Silver Medalist I have been invited to take part in this year's event, where I be joined by fellow athlete, Olympic hopeful, and EasyVestor, Brandon Valjalo. We're set to take part in the one day event as "icons" in the Tourvest African Icons Invitational to raise funds for SAPSET and WOF on Saturday the 17th October 2020.

If you are avid cyclist, or just recon you can ride 50-75km, and are keen on joining Brandon and I, among others, you can register by calling Adam Brooke on 066 488 8025.

What is African Icons Invitational all about?

African Icons Invitational is a charity event to raise funds for both SAPSET and WOF. Almost daily we hear of the tragic and pointless deaths of brave South Africans serving on the front line of our Police Service, killed in the line of duty. Sadly, we don’t always realise the full implications of their deaths, and the families they leave behind.

In many instances they are the breadwinners and support more than just their own immediate families. As we've seen recently, there was the terrible murder of Cape Town police detective Charl Kinnear. This charity is geered to support his family going forward, as well as other other deceased SAPS Policemen and women that fall in the line of duty.

SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE SERVICE EDUCATION TRUST (SAPSET)
On 23 November 2010, SAPSET was registered to give a brighter future to the children of the fallen members who sacrifice their lives. SAPSET embraces the social responsibility of taking care of fallen heroes’ and heroines’ children’s educational needs, by providing financial and other resource support to the children of employees appointed in the South African Police Service.

The WIDOWS and ORPHANS FUND
The Widows and Orphans Fund for South African Police Service (SAPS) was founded on 23 July 1920, and became a company on 8 December 1993. The Fund is a private organisation that is managed as a non-profit organisation. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance to the dependents of deceased contributors to the fund.
