EasyResearch Weekly Dividends Update

Written by Cay-Low Mbedzi | May 27, 2025 10:04:35 AM

On Sunday, the U.S. President announced that he had agreed to extend the 50% tariff deadline on the European Union to July 9. This decision followed a market sell-off on Friday, triggered by his earlier threat to impose steep new tariffs, including a 50% levy on EU goods starting June 1 and a potential 25% tariff on iPhones manufactured abroad. In response, the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and Nasdaq all closed lower.

In reaction to the tariff threats, gold and silver, typically viewed as safe-haven assets during periods of uncertainty, initially saw price spikes. However, after the President's announcement of the tariff delay, both metals pulled back. This dip could present an entry point for investors looking to gain exposure to precious metals.

A UBS Executive Director and FX Strategist predicts gold could climb to at least $3,500 within the next 12 months, and possibly as high as $3,800 if market volatility continues. He noted, “With increased geopolitical risks, our clients are turning to gold to hedge and diversify their portfolios -  it’s been the number one go-to asset.”

This week also highlights several major gold and silver giants that could be worth considering for portfolio diversification, including:

  • Agnico Eagle Mines Limited: One of the world’s largest senior gold mining companies, with operations in multiple countries and a focus on sustainable growth and shareholder value through share buybacks and cash dividends.
  • Kinross Gold Corporation: A global senior gold and silver mining company operating two mines in Nevada, one of the top mining jurisdictions in the world.
  • AngloGold Ashanti: A global gold mining company with operations, projects, and exploration activities across several continents.
  • Wheaton Precious Metals Corp: A leading gold and silver streaming company that funds miners upfront in exchange for the right to purchase a portion of future metal production at a set price. Unlike traditional miners, streaming firms do not own or operate mines.

Will you be adding gold to your portfolio amid the market turbulence caused by the announcement from the U.S, one of the world's largest economies, to potentially grow and protect your wealth while earning passive income?

Furthermore, for income-focused investors,

  • AGNC Investment Corp offers an annual dividend yield of 16%
  • ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd boasts an annual dividend yield of around 40%

Other names in this week’s update include McDonald's Corp, Nike Inc and Electronic Arts Inc
