With branches in Johannesburg, Pretoria, East London, and Cape Town, a strong contingent of 61 EasyEquities Born2Run runners will be participating in this year's Comrades.
The Comrades Marathon
The Comrades Marathon is no ordinary race. As the world's oldest and biggest ultramarathon, it's a grueling 88-kilometer challenge that takes place annually in KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa, between Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
The direction alternates each year, with the "up" run (87.6km) starting from Durban (elevation: 101 meters) and the "down" run (87.7km) starting from Pietermaritzburg (elevation: 921 meters).
This unique race was conceived by World War I veteran Vic Clapham to honor South African soldiers who lost their lives in the war. Inspired by his own 2,700-kilometer forced march through scorching German East Africa, Clapham envisioned the Comrades as a testament to human resilience. The race's constitution itself underscores this purpose, aiming to "celebrate mankind's spirit over adversity."
The Comrades was first held on May 24, 1921 (Empire Day) and has been a yearly tradition ever since, with the exception of World War II and the recent COVID-19 pandemic disruptions. Over 300,000 runners have completed this iconic race throughout its history.
Showcasing the EasyEquities Born2Run Spirit
We're excited to introduce you to some of our incredible runners from the EasyEquities Born2Run club who will be participating in this year's Comrades. They come from diverse backgrounds and compete in various formats, all united by their passion for running.
At EasyEquities, we believe in empowering people to achieve financial freedom and invest in their health. Our Born2Run club, established in 2014, embodies this philosophy perfectly.
