It's August, and the African Icons Invitational joins the Donate for Good as the latest beneficiary - a non-profit cycling initiative that raises funds for the widows and orphans of South African police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Founded in 2018 by Rory Steyn, this initiative combines sport and purpose by bringing together high-profile athletes to inspire everyday South Africans to ride for a cause. All funds raised go directly toward supporting the families of fallen officers, helping with educational needs and financial assistance through partnerships with the Widows and Orphans Fund and SAPSET.
Rory Steyn is a former SAPS officer and member of President Nelson Mandela’s protection team, who supports this cause deeply, as many police officers are tragically killed in the line of duty, leaving behind families who depended on them. He also serves on the Comrades Marathon Board alongside our Chief Marketing Officer, Carel Nolte.

“This is my chance to give back to the organisation that I benefitted from to complete my education, give me opportunities that I now enjoy, and instilled in me the disciplines I continue to apply in my life today.”
This year's African Icons cycling event features African Icons who represent resilience, achievement, and service.
"By adding African Icons Invitational as a Donate for Good beneficiary, EasyEquities invites its community to invest not only in financial growth, but in meaningful change,” said EasyEquities Partnership Lead and South African Olympic-medallist Shaun Keeling, who is also one of the 2025 African Icons. He will be present and participate in this year's cycling event. Keeling has taken part in the ride before, showing his ongoing commitment to the cause and the families it supports.
"With just a few clicks, investors can choose to support the education and well-being of families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. Whether you're riding alongside the icons or contributing through your investments, your support can help rewrite the stories of countless South African families," Shaun added.
