Girls investing for themselves

Less than 20% of EasyEquities investors are women. Yet women (arguably) make the best investment decisions. Armed with this intelligence, we set off to find a group of women who, like us, embrace fun, technology, innovation and spreading new ideas. And we found them!

Girl Geeks is a global community of women who are involved in, or simply love, the tech industry.

EasyEquities was the sponsor of the last Girl Geek Dinner, held at the end of March at the Higher Ground restaurant on the St Stithians campus. More than 150 women, armed with selfie-sticks, mobile devices and a love of tech, gathered to network, tweet and talk about investment.

The headline speaker was Bronwyn Nielsen, Executive Director and head of programming at CNBC Africa. Bronwyn gave some incredible insight into building wealth. Her opening line - “I decided I was never going to be poor” - set the tone for an inspirational talk that encouraged financial independence, a shrewd investment strategy and a long-term approach to growing one's wealth.

“At the end of the day, money means freedom,” she said. “You might be sorry to say 'no' to that new pair of shoes today, but one day you'll be glad that you did.”
