Empowering Hope With The Kids of Kurland School Project

The journey to make a difference continues with The Kids of Kurland School Project, the latest beneficiary of EasyEquities' DonateForGood initiative. This inspiring project is dedicated to improving the lives of children in Kurland village by addressing educational and social challenges.

Kurland Village, a rural township near the Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve, (about 20 km from Plettenberg Bay, South Africa), faces high unemployment and social issues like alcoholism, HIV, and domestic violence. The local primary school is under-resourced, with too few teachers for the growing student population, placing additional strain on families.

Founded in 2001, The Kids of Kurland School Project raises funds to employ teachers, a special needs educator, and a part-time social worker. It also runs life skills programs on empowerment, child safety, and AIDS education, where children teach their parents through joint homework books. Despite the progress, ongoing donations are crucial to maintain the project's impact. Recently, our very own 2016 Olympic medalist and Otter African Trail runner, Shaun Keeling, visited The Crags Primary to deliver a motivational talk to the kids. Reflecting on the partnership, Keeling shared, "EasyEquities is a sponsor of the Otter African Trail Run and our collaboration with them has given us this opportunity to make a difference and extend a helping hand."

FACES, the team behind the Otter, further emphasized: "We aim to support the local communities in the areas where our events take place because it’s important to strengthen the communities that coexist with our efforts. We also understand that exposure to sport can change lives, and what better way to inspire the community—one with access to and a rich history with these trails—than by helping them thrive alongside trail communities like Otter?"

Although the Kids of Kurland School Project has made great progress, the need for ongoing financial support is more critical than ever. With rising living costs and increasing demands on the school, many essential services and programs that have enriched the lives of children and their families are at risk without sustained contributions. Supporters are urged to keep donating to ensure that the positive changes in Kurland Village continue to thrive.
