"Protect Our Schools" - Building Safer Spaces for Students

Written by TeamEasy | Oct 31, 2024 9:36:27 AM

Schools across South Africa face increasing challenges in keeping their environments secure, welcoming, and equipped with the resources they need. Recognising this need, Smile Media developed the "Protect Our Schools" initiative - a practical solution that safeguards students while fostering positive community engagement.

A Solution That’s More Than a Fence

The high-visibility screens installed at school entrances, provides both a protective barrier and beautified space that feels welcoming. As Rowan Reiback from Smile Media explained, “We didn’t want the schools looking like construction zones. We wanted to come up with a design that provides a natural feel and doesn’t overpower the environment.” These screens serve a dual purpose: enhancing security while transforming school spaces by making them attractive and engaging for students, parents, and staff alike.

Community Impact and Financial Support

This initiative goes beyond safety - it’s also a valuable branding opportunity for companies seeking high-impact exposure. Because each screen is strategically placed at school entrances, it ensures high visibility to parents, students, and community members daily. And, with custom branding options available, companies can share their message in a way that’s visible, visually appealing and community-minded, offering more than just an advert: a chance to make a meaningful impact.

Investing in Community Impact

EasyEquities is proud to support "Protect Our Schools". Each new EasyEquities account opened via the QR code on the screens will receive R50 from us, PLUS we’ll also donate R50 directly to the participating school—helping schools fund vital projects while making it easier for individuals to start their investment journey. Additionally, each school receives a share of the screen rental income, creating a steady flow of funds that supports essential resources. “Most of these schools operate and do the most amazing things with so little; it’s inspiring what they manage to do. This extra funding makes a real difference.”

Tip: If you’re a parent, you can also easily open an EasyEquities account for your child.

Financial Education: Equipping Students for the Future

EasyEquities will also be introducing a financial education series for participating schools, tailored to high school students. Veronique (Head of Education at EasyEquities) highlighted that “Financial literacy and learning about how to invest your money is so often missed at the school level. We’re incredibly excited to provide a course that will get them comfortable with concepts around money and investing, inspiring them to think about their financial futures and take that first step on their financial journey.” The course will be aimed at teaching learners essential money management skills and basic investing concepts, setting them up to be able to make informed, confident financial decisions as they head out into the world.

How You Can Support the Initiative

  1. Sponsor a School: Companies or individuals interested in bringing the "Protect Our Schools" initiative to additional schools—even a single school—can explore various sponsorship opportunities.
