What is EasyCredit?

Written by Carly Barnes | Dec 14, 2023 6:48:39 AM

An EasyCredit secured loan allows you to borrow money against the shares in your portfolio. Typically this kind of access is only available to people with high value investment portfolios – upwards of R1million! We’ve broken down those barriers, allowing the majority of people with diversified portfolios who hold qualifying shares and ETFs to apply for a loan.

Having this option means not missing out on amazing market opportunities. When you see a share that you really want to invest in but don’t have the cash for, you don’t need to sell off your portfolio or use your credit card to buy more shares. You can access funding to do so.

You are also not limited to using the loan for shares – you can withdraw it and use it for whatever you want.

How it works

EasyCredit allows you to borrow up to R300 000 which can be used as you wish, based on the amount of qualifying investments you own in your portfolio. Qualifying shares consist of the top 100 shares and the most liquid Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). View the list here.

We will allow you to borrow up to 33% of the value of the qualifying shares you own in your portfolio. This means if you have R1,000 invested in top 100 shares, you could qualify for a R330 loan.

The term of the loan is 12 months. This means that a loan must be fully paid back at the end of the 12 month term, though you are able to pay it back sooner if you wish to do so.

You are able to use your ZAR and TFSA accounts as collateral when applying for a loan.

Like everything we do accessing EasyCredit is easy – a fully digital experience.

How much does it cost?

We’re offering you an affordable way for you to borrow money at prime interest + 3% per annum.

Think about how you would access money now if you needed it? On the high end of costs is your credit card which could charge you approximately prime interest +10% per annum.

There is also an initial charge of 1% (initiation fee) on your loan value. So if your loan value is R100, R1 is automatically deducted when you take out the loan.
