Driving Change Through Education: Support AEC's Mission with EasyEquities

EasyEquities is excited to introduce its newest Donate for Good beneficiary, the Alexandra Education Committee (AEC). This partnership empowers investors to support the AEC’s mission of providing educational opportunities and support to youth in Alexandra Township, driving positive change and brighter futures.

The Alexandra Education Committee (AEC), founded in 1996, supports academically promising learners from Alexandra Township through bursaries and comprehensive assistance, including school uniforms, transport, and meals. It also enhances the quality of education through teacher workshops and operates an active alumni network for continued mentorship.

Committed to breaking the cycle of poverty, the AEC empowers youth through education and psychosocial support. With sponsors like Telkom and FEMA, it hosts Saturday School sessions for around 400 students from grades 5 to 12. Families can apply by submitting an application and completing entrance tests, ensuring broader access to quality education and growth opportunities.

Paul Channon, a director at Alexandra Education Committee, says, “There is a pedestrian bridge over the freeway allowing access to Sandton, Africa’s richest square mile, from Alexandra, one of South Africa’s poorest square miles. The real bridge needed, however, is an educational route that will help break the cycle of poverty. Our goal is to make this possible through identifying children of talent at a young age and investing in their futures through the awarding of high school bursaries.”

AEC also provides Saturday School lessons to nearly 180 grade 5, 6, and 7 pupils in English, Mathematics, and coding. High school bursars from Grade 8 to Matric attend extra Saturday lessons in English, Mathematics, and Physical Science, with computer coding recently added. Holiday schools are tailored to bursars' needs, focusing on Mathematics and English for grades 7 to 9, while grades 10 to 12 receive lessons in Mathematics, English, and various elective subjects.
