All About Cryptocurrency Investing On EasyEquities

To celebrate the occasion, the founders of DCX announced that the DCX10 Index of Top 10 Cryptocurrencies will be rebranded as the EC10 (“EasyCrypto10”) and that they will continue their journey to making EC10 the first registered and regulated Crypto Asset Index in South Africa.

Further, EasyEquities Australia has achieved registration as a regulated Crypto vendor under Austrac, the Australian body that oversees Crypto Asset Providers, and will shortly be launching the EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle and other Cryptocurrencies in Australia.

What is the EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle:

The EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle is a bundle of the top 10 crypto assets weighted by market capitalisation which is managed by DCX Capital and includes BTC, ETH, XRP and others. The EC10 Crypto Assets are held in a highly secure institutional-grade custody solution by FWT Nominees for the safety of customers. Instead of placing different buy orders for each Crypto Asset separately, the EC10 allows you to place a single buy Order and you will be issued with the Crypto Assets listed in the EC10 Index in accordance with the Rand value of your Order.

The EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle allows you to take direct ownership of the underlying Crypto Assets within the bundle, provided your investment in the EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle exceeds R1 million. The price of the EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle is based on the value of the underlying Crypto Assets.

You’ll be able to invest in the EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle in the same way you would invest in other products on our platform. With any amount, you’ve got, and 15 minute delayed prices.

How much does it cost to invest in the EC10? 

The price of the EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle is calculated by DCX Capital and is derived from the price of the Crypto Assets included in the bundle, weighted by market capitalisation of the underlying Crypto Assets.

There is no minimum investment amount in the EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle, so you can start small and slowly build your investment over time.

Here's an example of how that works:

If you had R100 to invest in the EC10 Bundle and the EC10 was priced at R10, you would receive 10 EC10 Bundles. It also works in fractions the same way as shares do on EasyEquities; so if you had R1200 to invest in the EC10 Bundle and the EC10 price was R25.50, you would receive 47.0588 EC10 Bundles.

The fees that you would pay on the value of your transaction are:

• Our normal 0.25% brokerage
• Settlement & admin
• VAT
• IPL
• NO securities transfer tax

This works out to about 38c on a R100 investment.

Priced within the EC10 Bundle is a management, administration and custody fee of 2% every year, which is charged by DCX Capital. This fee is already reflected in the price of EC10 and holders are not charged separately for this. You won’t see this in the cost breakdown since it is absorbed into the EC10 Bundle price on a daily basis.

Do I own those currencies if I invest in the EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle?

Yes. When you buy an EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle, you will be issued with the Crypto Assets listed in the bundle in accordance with the Rand value of your investment. Your Crypto Assets are held in safe custody in a highly secure institutional-grade custody solution in the name of FWT Nominees on your behalf. You won’t however be able to trade them individually on the EasyEquities platform. If you own more than R1,000,000.00 (one million Rand) worth of EC10, you can request a withdrawal of the individual Crypto Assets to your own wallets. Otherwise, you cannot transfer the Crypto Assets which form part of your EC10 Crypto Asset Bundle and you have to sell back into Rands if you want to withdraw your funds.
