As the year comes to a close, we reflect not only on our achievements but also on the causes that matter most - like the fight against gender-based violence. The 16 Days of Activism Campaign, a global UN initiative running annually from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day), reminds us of the urgent need to stand together for human rights and safety.
This year, through the EasyEquities platform, we partnered with 11 impactful organisations, enabling investors to raise over R190,000 through the Donate for Good initiative, which allows investors to support meaningful causes while growing their portfolios.
This month, we are proud to announce our 12th organisation of the year: INpowered, an organisation dedicated to equipping individuals with essential tools and knowledge for self-protection. Through their innovative self-empowerment training, INpowered transforms fear into confidence and empowers people to respond effectively to life-threatening situations. Their approach includes:
- Woman INpowered (WIP): WIP is a simple yet powerful self-empowerment system designed for women, providing the mental and physical tools to make choices in threatening situations
- GRIP: a program designed to break misconceptions about self-defence. It empowers both men and women with practical skills to protect themselves and others, emphasizing that true capability comes from learning, not assumptions based on gender.
According to INpowered, four of Africa's ten most dangerous cities are in South Africa, which is also labeled the world's "rape capital." DataPandas ranks South Africa as the “Most Dangerous Country for Women.” Given the lack of reliable protection from the government or police, equipping oneself to handle life-threatening situations is crucial.
INpowered has also collaborated in the past with companies like Nike, Sibanye Stillwater, Implats, and Santam, whose shares are also available on EasyEquities.
“During the 16 Days of Activism, we’re all about standing together, making our communities safer, and spreading hope for a brighter future - not just for these 16 days, but every day after that too,” added Carly Esterhuizen, Brand VP of EasyEquities.
Investors can contribute to the impactful work of INpowered by using the "Donate for Good" feature while making their investments. This support helps raise funds to bring INpowered’s programs to those who need them most - whether it’s a woman working at Sibanye Mines or students in underprivileged high schools - creating lasting positive change.
