How EasyEquities Protects Your Account While You Sleep

Written by TeamEasy | May 19, 2026 7:00:00 AM

As investing becomes more digital, the questions people ask naturally become more practical too.

  1. How secure is my account?

  2. What protects my money and personal information?

  3. What happens if there’s a cyber-security issue?

And honestly… fair questions.

Because nobody wants to think about cyber-security right after finally remembering all their passwords. Or after getting one of those deeply suspicious “Your parcel is waiting” SMSes at 11:43pm.

These questions should be easy to ask. So here’s a simpler breakdown of how EasyEquities approaches investor protection behind the scenes.

1. How Does EasyEquities Protect Investor Accounts?

Protecting investor accounts involves multiple layers of security working together continuously in the background.

The kind of stuff most people never see, which is usually the point.

EasyEquities maintains a cyber-security framework aligned with industry standards and South African regulatory requirements, including the FSCA Joint Standard for cyber-security and cyber resilience.

Some of the measures used to help protect client accounts and data include:

  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA)
This adds an extra layer of account security beyond just a password. Because if your password is still your dog’s name plus “123”... we need backup.

  • Encryption of sensitive data
Sensitive information is encrypted to help protect client data during storage and transmission. In simple terms, information is scrambled in a way that helps prevent unauthorised access

  • Access controls
Internal systems and sensitive information are protected through controlled and restricted access processes.

Meaning not everybody can access everything. Which is generally a good rule for both cyber-security and family WhatsApp groups.

  • Continuous monitoring
Systems are continuously monitored to help identify unusual activity, vulnerabilities, or potential threats as early as possible.

  • Vulnerability management and incident response
Security risks are regularly assessed, managed, and updated as threats evolve. There are also formal processes in place to respond quickly if an incident occurs.

Cyber-security is not a one-and-done setup. It’s an ongoing process of testing, improving, adapting, reviewing, updating... and then probably updating again.

Kind of like your phone apps asking for yet another update the moment you finally clear your notifications.

2. What Happens If There’s a Cyber-Security Incident?

If a security incident occurs, EasyEquities follows formal incident management procedures designed to:

  • identify and contain the issue
  • investigate the cause and impact
  • respond in line with regulatory requirements
  • communicate where necessary
  • implement improvements based on lessons learned

Like most modern financial platforms, security is approached as a continuous responsibility rather than something you “finish.”

Because unfortunately cyber criminals also wake up every day and go to work.

EasyEquities also maintains risk management and risk transfer mechanisms, including insurance arrangements as part of its broader operational risk framework. Please note that these arrangements are subject to applicable terms, conditions, and coverage limitations.

The focus is on resilience, preparedness, continuous improvement, and protecting clients as effectively as possible over time. Clients also play an important role in account security by using strong passwords, enabling MFA, and remaining cautious of phishing or suspicious communications.

3. Can You Transfer Your Portfolio?

EasyEquities' “Bring It All Home" campaign offered qualifying South African investors up to 1% cashback for transferring their investments to EasyEquities ZA from another provider.

Because investors should have flexibility and choice when it comes to where they invest.

Although respectfully... once people discover fractional investing, low fees, and buying shares from their couch in pajama pants, they do tend to settle in a little.

Portfolio transfers are handled in accordance with market and regulatory requirements and typically involve:

  • client verification
  • coordination between financial institutions
  • settlement and transfer processes depending on the asset type

The timeline can vary depending on:

  • the type of investments being transferred
  • the receiving broker
  • external settlement processes

Because different providers and asset classes operate differently behind the scenes, transfer timelines are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

4. Does EasyEquities Conduct Independent Security Audits and Penetration Testing?

EasyEquities conducts regular independent assurance activities to assess the effectiveness of its security controls and systems.

These activities include:

  • external audits
  • vulnerability assessments
  • penetration testing on key systems

Which basically means systems are regularly tested to identify weaknesses before bad actors can.

It's like stress-testing the locks before someone tries the door.

Regular testing also supports ongoing compliance with regulatory and security standards while helping maintain cyber resilience as threats continue evolving globally.

Because unfortunately scammers also innovate.

Relentlessly.

5. Are EasyEquities Financial Statements Publicly Available?

Audited financial statements relating to Purple Group, which includes EasyEquities, are publicly available.

These statements are prepared in accordance with applicable regulatory and reporting requirements and provide transparency into the broader group’s financial position and operations.

We're all in on transparency, especially when people are trusting our platform with their money, personal information, and long-term goals. We take it very seriously.

Behind Every Investing Platform Is Infrastructure Most People Never See

When you invest online, you’re interacting with far more than an app or a website.

There are security systems, monitoring processes, regulatory requirements, audits, operational controls, and reporting standards all working continuously in the background.

Most people only think about these things when something goes wrong. Which is understandable.

But understanding how platforms approach security, transparency, and operational resilience can help investors feel more informed about where they’re investing and how those systems operate over time.

And ultimately, trust in investing is built gradually.

That journey has helped the EasyEquities community grow to more than R100 billion in Client NAV, representing millions of individual investing decisions made by people choosing to invest towards something bigger over the long term.

Because behind every portfolio number is still a person trying to build a better financial future.
