She Handles Your Withdrawals. Here’s What She’s Investing In.

From unit trusts to property and parenting to AI, Shannon - EasyEquities’ finance team anchor - reflects on growth, gratitude, and getting your financial recipe right. My name is Shannon, and by title, I handle deposits and withdrawals in the Finance team at EasyEquities. But unofficially? I’m Mom of Team Easy.

Part systems enforcer, part emotional support hotline. If you’ve ever had a deposit delay or needed something escalated quietly but quickly, chances are I’ve been involved. I keep the ducks in a row - at work and at home - and lately, ChatGPT has become my go-to. From calming tricky emails to helping with Grade 10 maths, it’s in the trenches with me.

So when I saw the EasyETFs AI World AMETF up +11.05% in July*, I wasn’t surprised. AI’s everywhere. Might as well put it to work in your portfolio too, right?

Women’s Month felt different this year. I wasn’t in the mood for big declarations. What I was in the mood for? Putting myself first. Just once. So I took a night off. Left food in the fridge, turned off my phone, and celebrated Women’s Month with my sister. It sounds small, but for someone like me, it was huge.

It reminded me that treating yourself doesn’t have to be grand - it just has to be intentional. That first TFSA contribution you’ve been meaning to make? Do it. A recurring investment that runs quietly in the background? Even better. Or maybe just get your nails done like I did - and make sure your nail tech opens an Easy account while you’re at it. Women supporting women (and their financial futures) is a vibe I’m here for.

If you know me, you know I love cooking. It’s how I connect with people. I’ve fed most of my team at some point - and when I cook, I cook with my whole heart. The same goes for how I approach investing.

I used to stick to unit trusts. Safe, familiar. But since joining Easy, I’ve let myself try new things. I added property to my mix - and I’m loving it. If you haven’t checked it out yet, the Platinum Square IPO on EasyProperties is flying. Our first retail property. We’ve increased the funding cap twice because demand was so high.

That doesn’t mean I’ve given up on unit trusts. My Retirement Annuity (RA) is still rooted in them. But the beauty is, I’ve learned to blend old favourites with new flavours - like a proper recipe. And speaking of RAs, we’re still offering 1% cashback* if you transfer yours to EasyEquities. Maybe that’s the self-care move you make next.

People say I mother everyone at work. Maybe it’s true. I care, I check in, I hold people accountable (lovingly, most of the time). But I’m also learning to hold space for myself. That’s what this Women’s Month taught me.

So whatever your title is - mom, friend, investor, supporter - remember to treat yourself too. And if that includes building a portfolio you’re proud of? I know just the place.
