10 Real Ways EasyEquities Empowers Investors

10 Real Ways EasyEquities Empowers Investors
9:07
One of the best ways to understand a platform is to see how real people are making the most of it.
Higgo van Biljon - investor, music lover, and fellow EasyEquities team mate - recently shared his favourite platform features on a thread on X, and it's struck a chord with our community. We've unpacked what they are - and why you may want to consider incorporating some of these ideas into your investing strategy.

What makes a great investing platform? For many users, it’s the simple things: seeing your progress, being able to automate the good habits, and that feeling of knowing you're in control. If you're just getting started on your investing journey or are already building momentum, here are 10 powerful features you'll find on EasyEquities - straight from a fellow investor - that can help you make the most of your investing journey.

Just a heads-up: This blog isn’t financial advice - it’s here to inspire and inform. Investing always comes with risk (yep, even the exciting stuff), and your capital isn’t guaranteed. Remember that what works for someone else may not work for you, so be sure to do your homework or chat to a qualified financial adviser.

1. Total Portfolio Value

Why it matters:

Your EasyEquities Total Portfolio Value shows you the value of everything you've invested in, across all your accounts and currencies - from ZAR to USD, property to crypto. It’s like a zoomed-out lens on your entire portfolio.

Markets move up and down every day, but if you select a longer timeframe to view (like 1 year or MAX), you can start to see magic of the bigger picture - time + consistency + compounding - coming into focus.

2. Recurring Investments

tweet_1930147601178890715_20250605_125443_via_10015_io

A recurring investment is is when you choose to automatically invest a fixed amount - like R100 or R500 - into things like shares, ETFs, or crypto on a set schedule (e.g. monthly, quarterly or annually). You can also set up a debit order to regularly add money to your free cash, and then invest it when you want, how you want.

You’re in control: you can change, or cancel your recurring investment anytime on EasyEquities.

Why it matters:
Investing regularly (even small amounts) helps to smooth out the market’s ups and downs. That’s called rand-cost averaging - instead of always trying to “time the market”, you build a habit that averages prices over time.

Start with what feels doable. Progress > perfection.

3. Track Your Portfolio's Performance

Your monthly statement shows how your investments are performing over time, not just in rands, but as a percentage gain or loss. It’s like a fitness tracker - but for your investments.

How to find your statements on EasyEquities:
Menu (☰) → Statements → Pick an account or bundle (ZAR, TFSA, USD, etc) → Download your desired month.

4. EC10 (Crypto Exposure)

Please note that crypto investments may involve higher risk.

EC10 is like a crypto sampler pack.

It gives you exposure to the top 10 cryptocurrencies, with the mix (weighting) of coins automatically updated each month based on their size in the market. You’re not betting on one token, but it’s still crypto: prices move fast, and big swings are normal.

Think of EC10 as a way to follow the crypto market without picking a favourite. It's also a great way to diversify so your risk is spread out.

5. Manage Your Retirement

Let’s break it down:

RA = Retirement Annuity
A long-term investment for retirement. Tax-deductible, but your money is generally locked in until age 55. Great for disciplined saving.

LA = Living Annuity
How your retirement annuity is used after retirement. You draw a specified income from it. Your money stays invested and can still grow.

TFSA = Tax-Free Savings Account
Flexible account for ETFs, actively managed ETFs, unit trusts, managed bundles and government bonds. No tax on growth, dividends, or withdrawals - but there’s an annual (R36K) and lifetime (R500k) contribution limit.

6. Invest Globally

Here's How It Works

You can invest in companies like Apple, Shell, or Microsoft on EasyEquities. First, you activate your USD, GBP, EUR, or AUD wallet (takes seconds). Then, use EasyFX to switch your rands into foreign currency.

From there, you’re ready to buy international shares - all within the same dashboard. And, because you can also buy fractional shares in global wallets, you don't need thousands to start.
Just remember: exchange rates can affect your returns. Markets go up and down - including those offshore.

7. Actively Managed ETFs (AMETFs)

What’s the deal with AMETFs?
An ETF (Exchange-Traded Fund) is like a bundle of shares you can buy in one go. It tracks a theme or strategy - like global growth or income - and spreads your investment across many companies.

Actively Managed ETFs are managed by pros who adjust the mix to try and beat a benchmark.
Think: less “set-and-forget,” more “curated basket with a brain.”

8. EasyProperties

Property Without the Bond
You’re not buying a whole house or flat - you’re buying a slice of the deal.

Each property on EasyProperties is owned by a company (known as an SPV) set up just for that investment. When you invest, you buy shares in that company - alongside thousands of other investors.

That means:

  • You get exposure to the property’s growth

  • You can earn rental income in the form of dividends

  • You don’t have to deal with tenants, bonds, or transfer duties

It’s real property, just shared. You’re in - without going all in.

9. Fast Deposits
