Arsenal’s Long-Awaited Victory: A Win Years in the Making

Arsenal’s Long-Awaited Victory: A Win Years in the Making
4:52

Every week, our CEO, Charles Savage, shares his Savage Take, a reflection that covers a variety of topics, from personal experiences to investing insights, and the lessons he draws from different moments, conversations, and real-world examples.

What makes these weekly notes compelling is how they consistently link everyday observations to broader themes around growth, discipline and the value of long-term thinking. Big achievements often take time to build, even when they look sudden from the outside. Whether in sport, business, or life, the most meaningful wins usually come after years of setbacks, learning, and steady improvement that most people don’t immediately see.

Arsenal F.C.’s recent Premier League win fits this pattern perfectly. It ended a 22-year wait for the title and marked the reward for years of rebuilding, resilience and staying committed to a long-term vision. After coming close in recent seasons and competing against dominant rivals like Manchester City F.C., finally getting over the line felt like a major breakthrough and a defining moment for supporters who had waited years to see the club return to the top.

A Word From a Lifelong Supporter

For Bradley Leather, EasyEquities’ Head of Partnerships and a lifelong Arsenal supporter, the win carries a deeply personal meaning. After years of backing the team through ups and downs, the title represents belief, patience, trust and sticking to a long-term plan, finally paying off. He reflects on how extraordinary it is that, after the famous Invincibles season in 2004, it took Arsenal 22 years to lift the trophy again, a reminder of just how long the journey can be, even for the biggest clubs.

Adding that, "What made it even more heartfelt for me was seeing the joy on my kids’ faces. They have never seen Arsenal win the league and have spent years in the shadow of their friends who support Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United. To finally share this moment with them is something I will never ever forget. Now on to Budapest. North London Forever!”

The Reality Behind the “Overnight Success”

That idea also comes through in the latest Savage Take, where our CEO reflects on what happens after success is finally achieved. Big victories often look sudden from the outside, but are usually the result of years of discipline, setbacks and staying committed to the process. As he puts it, “Success is rarely instant - it’s often the result of showing up consistently long before anyone notices.”

That same theme came through in Jonathan Gerber, Director of TAG Travel and Co-Founder (Volunteer) of the TAG Foundation, in his recent newsletter, where he reflected on Arsenal’s victory as more than just a sporting moment. He highlighted it as a reminder that what can appear like an overnight success is often the result of years of sacrifice, resilience and steady progress behind the scenes.

Jonathan shared how Arsenal continued to build season after season despite criticism and near misses, staying committed to a long-term plan and trusting the process. His message was a strong reminder that progress is often gradual and not always visible in the moment, but consistency and determination can eventually lead to meaningful breakthroughs.

Progress Through Consistency

That same principle is reflected in the long-standing relationship between EasyEquities and TAG Travel. As our travel partner, TAG supports the team behind the scenes, while through EasyRetire, Easy also supports TAG’s team with their long-term retirement goals. It’s a fitting partnership built on planning ahead, staying committed, and understanding that meaningful outcomes are created over time.

There is also a broader connection through the work of the TAG Foundation, which has been featured on Donate for Good on multiple occasions. Whether through giving, investing, or building towards a long-term goal, the message remains the same: small, consistent actions may feel ordinary in the moment, but over time they can lead to meaningful and lasting impact.

Lessons From the Long Wait

For many supporters, Arsenal’s title carried extra weight because of the long journey to get there. Years of near misses created frustration, but also resilience. When success finally arrived, it felt more meaningful because it was earned through persistence and learning along the way.

Investing follows a similar pattern. Consistent contributions, patience through market cycles, and a long-term mindset often matter more than short-term moves. Over time, discipline allows compounding to work, turning small actions into meaningful long-term growth that only becomes fully visible in hindsight.
