Crowd Sourced Stock Picks: What Other Yousers are Investing In

The power of the collective – it’ been written about and studied for ages. It’s how a lot of people, living in a fast-paced connected world, are able to gain perspective from a wide range of opinions and ideas and use it to make more refined, quicker decisions. It’s how Indigogo creates funding opportunities for entrepreneurs, how Amazon helps you decide what book you might like to read next, or how Spotify’s Discover Weekly totally knows your kind of musical jam and serves it to you without you even having to look for it. It’s curation at scale, based on behavior.

The same goes for investors.

A growing number of investors (newbies and experts in the field) are using social media to inform their stock picks and recommendations. From being able to catch market news as soon as it hits on Twitter; assessing how many people are keen on investing in particular company; or following brand influencers and CEO’s… social media serves up a whole lot of information that can offer insights into whether a stock or industry is worth giving some more attention to. Twitter itself even hosts a series of blogs which look at finance tweets of the month.

Ahead of our US stocks launch we asked our community what kind of ‘names’ they wanted to see on our new platform, which offers a range of American shares and exchange traded funds. Of course the big guns like Tesla and Alphabet (Google) stole the show, but a lot of followers mentioned stocks we hadn’t originally thought to include like Manchester United, Advanced Micro Devices and 8point3 Energy.
