EasyEquities investors in dividend-paying stocks could be heading toward half a billion rand in distributions this year, with year-to-date payouts from the local market exceeding R410 million, $3.7 million from the US market, AU$380,000 (Australian), £100,000 (British), and nearly €70,000 (European).

This week brings a wave of earnings announcements from the US, which could lead to additional dividend payouts for shareholders, as companies often declare dividends or share buybacks during or shortly after reporting their results.

These include names like Betway parent company (Super Group ‘SGHC’), which could also reflect Africa's gambling spending, as well as Uber, Airbnb, Spotify, Pfizer, BP, Ferrari and McDonald’s.

In addition, several companies, including Unilever PLC, J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc., and Southern Copper Corporation, have announced cash dividends with upcoming last dates to trade for eligible investors.

Unilever PLC

  • Will be paying dividends across multiple markets, including the US, UK, and British markets.
  • Expected to proceed with the planned spin-off of the Magnum Company, list in the different markets, and thereafter perform a share consolidation. 
    • To qualify for the upcoming dividend, share consolidation, and demerger, investors should hold Unilever shares in the respective market where these actions take place before the last date to trade (LDT) of the different events.

J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc.

  • Has also authorised a new $1 billion share repurchase or buyback program.
    • No action is required, as the company buys back shares directly in the open market, which could boost the value of remaining shares.

Southern Copper Corporation

  • Will be paying both a cash dividend and a stock dividend. 
    • No action is required from investors who own shares on or before the LDT to receive either dividend.
