Weekly Dividends Update

Weekly Dividends Update
1:47

Globally, energy prices continue to be affected by events in the Middle East, which are pushing oil prices higher. This is also resulting in oil players, in some cases, adjusting their dividend policies in terms of how much and when they can pay dividends.

Harbour Energy is one such example included in this week’s update.

  • The company recently updated its dividend policy, outlining how much of its free cash flow would be distributed to shareholders, targeting 45–75% payouts (up from 40% since 2022).

    • Higher oil prices often increase free cash flow (FCF) for oil and gas companies by boosting revenue and operating cash flow.

It’s also worth noting that, similar to Sasol in the South African context, which prioritises servicing its debt and strengthening its balance sheet before paying cash dividends to shareholders, Harbour is expected to pay lower payouts while leverage exceeds 1.0x (towards the lower end of 45%) to prioritise debt reduction, with payouts increasing as leverage declines below this level (towards the higher end of 75%).

“The policy strikes the right balance across the commodity price cycle between our commitment to a strong balance sheet, unlocking the potential of our portfolio, and delivering attractive shareholder returns.” – Harbour Energy

Furthermore, companies increasing their upcoming cash dividends in the latest update include Mastercard Incorporated, which has declared a 14% increase in its dividend payout.

Centrica plc, a UK-based energy and services company, has increased its cash dividend by 20%.

Special dividend payouts will be paid by names like Sun International and Grindrod.

Government bonds offer a reliable way to earn fixed income by lending money to the government in exchange for regular interest payments.
Dividends are one of the many key components of investing, representing a share of a company's profits distributed to its shareholders.
Special dividends, also known as extraordinary dividends, are one-time payments made by companies to shareholders due to specific financial events, like windfall profits or asset sales.
