These gatherings were about building connection, celebrating the spirit of the Otter, and reminding ourselves that running is as much about community as it is about kilometers.
In Johannesburg, we set off in the Magaliesberg mountains, where none other than Pierre Jordaan, the Otter Trail Run manager, designed the route and joined us for the run. Having previously collaborated with Pierre last year, it was special to reconnect on the trails and feel the same sense of shared purpose.
With his expertise, the group experienced a taste of the Otter’s technical, beautiful, and challenging terrain, all within a Joburg weekend.
Meanwhile, in the Western Cape, trail runners gathered at Plaisir Wine Estate where Blake Dyson took the lead in planning a scenic route. The run was elevated by the presence of several women from the Faces team, the official organizers of the Otter. Their energy, together with the rolling vineyards and mountain backdrops, made for an unforgettable morning. And because balance is everything, the trail run ended in true Cape Town style, the crew toasted with plenty of champagne, proving that trail running and lifestyle can go hand-in-hand.
The Otter is more than a race; it’s a mindset. These pre-runs create touchpoints for community, offering runners across provinces a chance to connect, prepare, and feel part of something bigger. Just as investing requires discipline and strategy, so too does trail running, and both are more rewarding when shared with others.
