Dimakatso Makhafola, EasyEquities' Onboarding & Learning Specialist, shares how she went from dance challenges to financial confidence.

February is the month of love, and while romance often takes centre stage, I believe love is about more. It’s about passion - for life, growth, learning - and investing in what truly matters. Since this is our first time connecting, I’m Dimakatso Makhafola, the On-boarding, Learning, and Development Specialist at EasyEquities.

You can call me Dima 😊

For me, love means showing up - for myself, my family, and my future. As a mother, I know how important it is to set my child up for success, which is why I believe in early financial planning - because love isn’t just words, it’s action. A Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) is a great way to build their future while benefiting from tax-free growth. With the tax year-end approaching, now is the perfect time to maximize contributions. We strongly encourage deposits before February 20 to avoid the last-minute rush.

Speaking of action, I wasn’t always confident with investing. Managing my own Retirement Annuity (RA) felt overwhelming, but once I started researching - watching videos, reading blogs, following experts - I realized knowledge is power. If you’re feeling unsure, EasyEquities has you covered with resources: our blog, Help Centre, EasyAcademy, and our social channels for bite-sized lessons. Education builds confidence! And having a recurring investment set up helps me stay consistent.

One thing I love about investing is that there’s always something new to explore. I use my EasyEquities ZAR, USD, AUD, EasyProperties, RA, and a Preservation Provident Fund accounts, and I check in regularly because I love watching my money work for me. If you’re looking for something fresh, there’s always a new opportunity – like the New Year, New Me investing theme, The Dawn in Lynwood (a new property investment), or EasyETFs Actively Managed ETFs, now available for TFSA and RA.

Beyond investing, my world is full of movement and energy. I’m a gym fanatic (five days a week, or I get grumpy!), love dressing up, and I’m always up for a TikTok dance challenge.

Life is short, so my motto is simple: “Thata lento, ayina bungozi.” This Xhosa phrase means “Take that, it’s harmless”, but to me, it’s a reminder to go for it - you won’t die.

Here’s to a February filled with love - the kind that fuels your future, empowers your choices, and keeps you learning every day.
