National Savings Month just wrapped up yesterday and I’d like to share what you, the Easy Community, got up to. The month of July always proves to be an interesting time for EasyEquities, not only because it does well as a lead in to the best month of the year (Women’s month, and my birthday). For us hopeful wealth builders, July reminds us that we’re more than halfway toward the December money pressure and next year’s financial resolutions. Here’s a short list of what’s went down in Easy town.
- Charles meets Thabooty
I personally had FOMO about this one. Shortly after EasyEquities released DCX, CEO and main man Charles Savage paid a visit to the 5FM studio to chat all things investing and saving. Talking all things low-risk investing to cryptocurrencies, Charles chatted to Thando Thabete about the wide variety of instruments at the investor’s disposal. Catch the recording of that interview here.
- The Easy community share their savings hacks
As part of our Thrive loyalty programme, EasyEquities users were tasked with sharing their own personal savings tricks and tips with us. You all revealed a few gems to the rest of the community, such as going to the gym close to work, using less data, and carpooling. The hope is to get the community to make the same efforts as our 'Thriving' users with their own savings.
- Standwa in the Power House
Charles wouldn’t be the only famous EasyEquities rep this month. Not to be outdone by my homie Charlie, I got on the Power Talk hot seat to answer a few callers’ questions around the stock markets and investing. You can catch the investment conversation with Power FM’s Aldrin Sampear here.
- GT247.com’s Lesedi meets DJ at Large at Youth Money Circle
My desk neighbour, GT247.com brand manager and EasyEquities fan, Lesedi Mfolo, attended this year’s Youth Money Circle event at Impact Hub in Rosebank. Lesedi met some great young minds making a mark in the finance industry, like Tshepo Kgapane (DJ At Large), the rest of the YMC team, and even Thando Thabete at the event. More FOMO for me.
- The JSE in Katlehong
To round off a busy month for the team, we supported a young JSE Invesment Challenge mentor in their quest to bring the markets to their hometown of Katlehong. It turned out to be quite an adventure as we highlighted the co-dependent purpose of saving and investing with Standard Bank and Bheki Twala. Read the full blog on our adventure here.
It had been a busy but worthwhile month for us at the Easy HQ. More than any other time of year, I personally expect to see our community thrive the most in July as we add to the growing national choir that is July Savings Month. How does all this hustle reflect for us as a community? We grew the community by almost 50% this July compared to last year's July Savings Month. All of this was possible thanks to the growing awareness of savings as more South Africans grow to understand the value in building wealth.
