December in South Africa saw a sharp rise again in COVID-19 cases with the fast-spreading Omicron Variant. This caused the major Matric Rage events in Balito and Plett to be cancelled. The government kept the country at Adjusted alert Level one and for the New Years Eve celebrations even removed the curfew.
December is always a month for holiday in South Africa, which gave the struggling tourism sector a boost and many South Africans were happy to see the beaches stay open this year.
The markets saw a good rise to end off the year, whilst crypto currencies struggled.
