Easy Does It: Episodes on recession, EasyVSTRs' confessions and the March wrap-up

You may have seen how interest rate decisions (influenced by various data points) have affected markets, creating a volatile environment. The decision to adjust these interest rates is to combat the rising cost of living while avoiding a recession.

March market wrap-up:

The long weekend is over; before that, a lot happened in March as macroeconomics took a toll on markets. If you need to catch up, here's the latest market wrap-up.

In the latest episode, JD Breytenbach, Senior Trader at Purple Group, highlights the big investment global themes and macroeconomic factors that affected markets in March. He delves into Transaction Capital, shares his thoughts on Alibaba, and touches on the effects of the US banking crisis. Furthermore, he highlights events that he expects to be the market-driving factors in April.

What is a recession?

In an economy where spending is rife, prices will rise. This hinders consumers' buying power and negatively affects GDP.

This is because when spending drops, money circulating becomes less over time, and companies' earnings tend to decline. During this period, analysts may start downgrading their earnings per share (EPS) estimates for various companies. For investors, such times bring about volatility, which may lead to a stock downturn as investors become more sceptical about future earnings.

How to protect your wealth during a recession with Ludwik Van Wyk

Speaking about Recessions, DJ@Large takes the mic with Ludwik van Wyk, Managing Director at Telos Wealth Capital. It's a two-part episode where Ludwik dives into what a recession really means to everyday people. Even though interest rates may seem far removed from people watching the news cycle, he explains recessions in a way anyone would understand (and should beware of).
