As part of the journey to support active citizenship with a focus on different causes, EasyEquities has just added the new Donate For Good beneficiary, WeRowSA.
The supporters club is an initiative that aims to help bridge the funding gap to grow and support the South African rowing community. Shaun Keeling, Partner Lead at EasyEquities, who previously participated and won bronze at the 2014 World Championships, 5th place at the Beijing Olympics (2008), and a silver medal at the Rio Olympics (2016), explains that rowing has historically performed exceptionally well at an Olympic level, winning Olympic Gold (2012), Silver (2016), and Bronze (2004) medals.
Sports contribute to promoting peace and development, from large-scale events to community activities, fostering social cohesion and achieving global goals. The South African national rowing team (National Squad) is currently supported Rand Merchant Bank (RMB), which helps with the sport funding and exposure at all levels, helping the team achieve its goals.
"I want the whole nation to feel a part of Team South Africa." - Tiago Loureiro, SA National Head Coach.
“I have always loved the rowing sport since I started. Not only does it demand you to be at your physical best, but you must also be a rowing technician. This can take years to master. Like any other sport, I also believe that the sport has the power to bring people from different backgrounds together. Rowing is often described as an art form, and one I wish everyone could try to get involved in and have the opportunity to participate in,” Shaun Keeling added.
The funds donated to WeRowSA Supporters Club will help keep the sport going by supporting rowing athletes, training programs, equipment maintenance, and participation in national and international competitions.
